So talk about having a horseshoe firmly planted...... Tony and his family came over for burgers and play the "New Course at St.Andrews" for the first time and lo and behold Tony stepped up to the signature hole and got a HOLE IN ONE on his first shot. After oxygen was supplied, a fresh smoke, a full Budweiser and a pinch for reality, he proceeded to "inform" us as to how he did it and the last time we checked he was still discussing it as he was getting into the car........ Great Shot Tony!!!!!! Glad your first "real" hole in one" was at my course and not some place fancy...lol
The Signature hole.... picture taken from directly behind tee.

Lol....... not to take "anything" away from Tony's first ever "real" "hole in one" but yes Geri, the New Course at St.Andrews features 4 different greens approached from 6 different tee boxes, ranging from 28 to 65 yds in length and is located on my land both in my back and front yards to be exact.
The signature hole #1 green overlooking McCanns Cove in Passamaquoddy Bay located on the Atlantic Ocean is a gentle down hill slope (in the front yard) with a drop in elevation of approximately 10ft. The flag is located in the middle of the green and is exactly 35 yards from the tee box. A straight up and down approach shot is required as the landing pad is small and most balls tend to roll off the back of this small 13ftw x 16ftl green. A short shot or roll in from either side is seldom successful due to a sand trap that circumnavigates the green. Further challenging players is the late afternoon offshore winds that tend to produce inland direction breezes of upwards of 25mph. (With the exception of the frequent gale force storms which produce 35 to 75 mph inland direction winds.)
The signature hole #1 is the toughest of the two par 3 rated approach greens. |
