Okay, so. I got bored and decided to do this anyways.
Start off with putting distances:
usually anything under 4yards can be "slammed" in by aiming at the opposite side of the break, on the INSIDE of the cup.. don't get too close now, it might rim out, and hitting the power between 25-35%.
Anything above that.. well, here's a nice putting distance chart. (note: this is on a flat green)
Amateur to Semi Putter (excluding Werdandi and Nado)
7yds --- 34%
8yds --- 37%
9yds --- 40%
10yds --- 42%
11yds --- 45%
12yds --- 48%
13yds --- 51%
14yds --- 54%
15yds --- 57%
16yds --- 59%
17yds --- 62%
18yds --- 65%
19yds --- 68%
20yds --- 70%
21yds --- 72%
22yds --- 74%
23yds --- 76%
24yds --- 78%
25yds --- 80%
26yds --- 82%
27yds --- 85%
28yds --- 88%
29yds --- 91%
30yds --- 94%
31yds --- 97%
32yds --- 100%
Now that you've got a good idea on short putts, and how far to hit the longer ones, let's get into the breaks of the green. (Note: this takes a lot of practice and a great feel of the game, from my personal experience anyways.)
So to start off, let's say you're putting a 4.9yard putt, uphill and breaking to the left.. kinda like... this:
(very realistic, I know.)
So now comes the hard part, calculating.
There are 3 types of breaks; fast, medium and slow, these can be either used left to right or uphill and downhill. It takes a good look at the different speeds of them to realize which one is which, and even sometimes you will still have a hard time deciphering.
Left to right breaks
a fast break, grants you a count of 3, a medium a count of 2, and a slow a count of 1.
Let's take another look at the diagram.. say that those left breaking lines were slow, there are 4 between you and the hole, so you would count 4.
Now what do we do with this 4? well... it gets even more complex..
The first line left or right of of the pole is a "10", second is "20", third is "30" and so on.
So obviously, 5 is right in between the pole and the first line, right next to that 5, closer to the pole, would be a 4. Move your cursor there. (you can use tab and zoom in with your mouse wheel for a real nice close in view for better accuracy.)
But wait, there's more! What about uphill and downhill slopes?!
Slopes
Uphill slopes make your ball break less, slow moving uphill slopes you will cut your original count by 1/4, medium by 1/2, and fast by 3/4.
So back to the diagram, say that uphill slope was moving medium, this would cut your original 4 count in half, giving you a now 2. Adjust power accordingly to hit 1-2y further(beware of hazardous downhills right behind a uphill)
As for downhill slopes.. those are pretty tricky to me and I really haven't figured them out fully, but I will try to explain best to my knowledge
Depending on your distance from the hole, downhill slopes are going to make your putts break INCREASE if you hit the correct power (not too hard) depending again, on how fast the lines are moving. Slow downhill slopes increase your count by 1-2, (depending on how far you are from the hole. I told you it takes a lot of feel for it.. lol) Medium lines increase your count by 2-3, and fast increasing your count by 3-4. Remember to adjust your power acordingly.
Slow downhills - decrease yardage 1-1.5y
Medium downhills - decrease yardage 2-2.5y
Fast downhills - decrease yardage 3-4y
I know it's a lot of information, but once you get the hang of it.. you'll either be close or IN the hole. Putting distance is CRUCIAL in playing under par, you don't want to over putt or under putt by a lot.
Find your own feel, and I hope this guide helps, thanks for reading! |

Yes Kat this is the same one I found only first line is ten , second is thirty and each additional is twenty not ten,
It is extremely accurate tho if you can differentiate line speeds |
